Welcome to CJ's Riders team site for the Chester County Challenge for Cancer (CCCC). June 16, 2013 will be our second year riding for all those who have benefitted from either the Cancer Center of Chester County and/or Neighborhood Hospice but we ride especially for two people who meant so much to so many.
Gene Flook was a curler among other notable positions and interests. He was also the Treasurer of the Philadelphia Curling Club for over 5 years and under Gene's watchfulness and assistance; the Club prospered and was able to install a new ice house through the Summer of 2010 that provided a superb curling experience for everyone starting with the 2010-2011 season. Gene was a cancer survivor who was able to enjoy his end of life with the care and facilities of Neighborhood Hospice. He was a true Renaissance man who could talk chemistry while doing a perfect fox-trot. We all miss him.
Candy Stephani was a 4 time survivor of breast cancer who had remarkable end of life experiences as she battled pancreatic cancer because of the experience and care of all the staff at the Cancer Center. She was a great athlete who could play at a top level but kick-back and play with the many kids she befriended. In recent years, Candy paddled and drummed for the Breast Cancer Survivor team, Hope-Afloat U.S.A, on a regional, national and international level. Biking for MS was one of Candy's many interests, both as a rider and then later as a course checker so it's fitting that we have a team in her name.
Proceeds from this ride are split 50-50 between the Cancer Center of Chester County and the Neighborhood Hospice. Your participation or donation in the name of CJ's Riders is much appreciated.
Hope to see you on the morning of Sunday, June 16. We'll be back on Father's Day 2014!
