Members of the Kennett Square branch of the Women’s Auxiliary to The Chester County Hospital celebrate their $1 million achievement at The Encore Shop.
Popular Consignment Shop Donates $1 Million in support of The Chester County Hospital
Released: June 1, 2010
Along Route 1 North in Kennett Square, there sits a red brick building, just where the interstate splits with Route 52 South. The building is unassuming from the road, but nine months out of the year it is hotbed of consignment activity. The Encore Shop has been a retail source of financial support for The Chester County Hospital and Health System dating back to 1973.
Managed by the Kennett Square Branch of the Women's Auxiliary to The Chester County Hospital, The Encore Shop has recently achieved a great financial milestone. It reached the $1 million mark in donations to the Hospital, since 2005. For each item sold, two-thirds goes to the consignor and one-third goes toward The Encore Shop's commitment to the Hospital.
The store's proceeds from the sales support the Women Auxiliary's fundraising commitment to the Hospital. In the past three years, the Auxiliary, which has 11 branches county-wide, contributed $2 million to the Hospital. It is currently raising funds for its "Pledge of Hope" campaign.
"In spite of the current economic situation and a tough year for most people, The Encore Shop's profits rose 13% this past year," says Auxiliary member Elizabeth Halsted, who has volunteered at the store since it first opened. She is among the 85 members of the Kennett Square auxiliary that volunteer at the store throughout the year as part of their involvement in the club.
With more than 1,400 consignors, the Encore Shop's has policies and procedures in place that are designed to serve its customers and consignors in good faith.
Much like the Hospital's mission to provide quality healthcare, The Encore Shop's goal is also to offer quality products to the residents of Chester County.
The Encore Shop is an upscale consignment destination that specializes in clothing, jewelry, antiques and glassware. The Auxiliary holds high standards for the type and gently-used nature of the items it accepts for resale. With consignments accepted three days each week, the merchandise in the store turns over quickly so there are always new treasures to discover.
Store hours are Monday through Friday from 9:30 am to 4 pm, and until 3 pm on Saturdays. June 4 is the last day for items to be brought in for consignment. On June 12, 2010 from 9:30 am-4 pm, The Encore Shop will host its annual "Grand Finale Sale" with all items 75% off, and then it will be closed for the summer.
"Every year on our Grande Finale Sale day, the line forms early and items go quickly," says Meg DiDonato, co-manager. "It is an exciting day at the store, but don't worry the store will re-open in mid-September with a completely different selection of merchandise!"
About the "Pledge of Hope" Campaign
The Women's Auxiliary has dedicated its current fundraising efforts to the purchase of the Eclipse Treatment Planning System for The Chester County Hospital's Cancer Program. This sophisticated planning software allows clinicians to quickly customize treatment plans so that each patient receives the most targeted treatment for their cancer and the best chance of beating it. The Auxiliary's hope is for all Chester County residents to have access to the best medical care. Its mission is to support The Chester County Hospital's tradition of providing quality healthcare close to home.
