DEXA Scan

DEXA ScanEvery day, physicians use X-rays to view and evaluate bone fractures and other injuries of the musculoskeletal system. As important as a plain X-ray test can be for certain conditions, it is not the best way to assess bone density, detect osteoporosis, or determine risk of fractures. To detect osteoporosis accurately, doctors use an enhanced form of X-ray technology called Dual-Energy X-ray Absorptiometry (DEXA). A quick, painless procedure for determining bone loss, DEXA is the established standard for measuring bone mineral density. DEXA measurements are most often performed on the lower spine and hips.
