Dash 4 Diabetes - Volunteer Job Descriptions

DASH SCHEDULE>>

VOLUNTEER POSITIONS:

Set Up & Break-Down - 12:00 p.m. (completion by 5:00 pm) Arrival at Justice Center

  • Parking: Parking is available in the garage across the street from the Justice Center at no charge.
  • Attire: We would prefer it if you wore khaki pants/slacks. You will receive a yellow 'staff' t-shirt when you check in at the Justice Center - please use the right front/revolving door on Market Street.
  • Tasks: Move tables and chairs into position. Dress tables with signage and tablecloths. Hang banners. Blow up balloons. Assemble and distribute signs.

Registration - 1:30 p.m. (completion by 4:30 pm) Arrival at Justice Center

  • Parking: Parking is available in the garage across the street from the Justice Center at no charge.
  • Attire: We would prefer it if you wore khaki pants/slacks. You will receive a yellow 'staff' t-shirt when you check in at the Justice Center - please use the right front/revolving door on Market Street.
  • Tasks: Alphabetically arrange preregistered paperwork, prepare cash boxes, review procedure to distribute numbers and pins and runner gift bags. Situate personnel with assigned registration tasks and prepare for arrivals.

Registration Marshals - 2:00 p.m. (completion by 4:00 pm) Arrival at Justice Center

  • Parking: Parking is available in the garage across the street from the Justice Center at no charge.
  • Attire: We would prefer it if you wore khaki pants/slacks. You will receive a yellow 'staff' t-shirt when you check in at the Justice Center - please use the right front/revolving door on Market Street.
  • Tasks: Direct participants to proper lines based on whether they are pre-registered, day-of registration or children's race participants. If day-of, provide clipboard with abbreviated registration form and assure form is completed with necessary information. Assist in registration as needed.

Road Marshal Team Leads - 2:30 p.m. (completion by 5:00 pm) Arrival at Justice Center

  • Parking: Parking is available in the garage across the street from the Justice Center at no charge.
  • Attire: We would prefer it if you wore khaki pants/slacks. You will receive a yellow 'staff' t-shirt when you check in at the Justice Center - please use the right front/revolving door on Market Street.
  • Tasks: Review map, go over race time-line, divide volunteers into teams and assign locations, divide equipment into boxes with vests and signs. Drop-off team leaders at designated meeting areas in truck.
  • At Designated Assembly Intersections - Greet volunteers, make certain that volunteers have safety equipment on (vests, flags) and have cones at each intersection. Provide volunteers with Road Marshal instruction sheets. Direct volunteers to designated intersections.
  • At Race Completion - collect safety equipment (Vests, flags, cones), volunteer survey/prize drawing entry forms at designated drop points. Put aside anything that is damaged. Truck will come around and pick up equipment and team leaders. Encourage volunteers to come to Justice Center for volunteer prize drawing and remind that they are welcome to after-party. Clean and package materials for storage.

Road Marshals - 3:00 p.m. (completion by 5:00 pm) Arrival at Justice Center

  • Parking: Parking is available in the garage across the street from the Justice Center at no charge. But you may try to park nearer to your designated meeting spot.
  • Attire: We would prefer it if you wore khaki pants/slacks. You will receive a yellow 'staff' t-shirt when you check in at the Justice Center - please use the right front/revolving door on Market Street. You will also receive safety equipment. (Reflective Vest)
  • Tasks: The race will be begin at 4:00 p.m., and the fastest runners will make the first loop of the course in about 7 minutes, so you need to be prepared for their arrival shortly after the start. As a result, you must be at your designated intersection by 3:40 p.m. The last runners and walkers will complete the course in about an hour, so you should expect to remain at your location until approximately 5:00 p.m.
  • During the race, please do the following:
    - Stop ALL cross-traffic at the intersection and let the racers pass.
    - Do NOT allow any vehicles onto race course, they may only cross the course
    - Remain alert for stragglers as well as the lead runners the second time around as they will be there before you know it.
    - Make certain cone and caution sign blocks the intersections
    - You may be responsible for one of the sponsor's mile markers. Please make certain the lettering faces the runners.
    - When the last participants have passed, please pick up your cone and return to your team's respective assembly point.
    - Return the cone and the vest, and complete and submit your volunteer survey and raffle entry form.

Finish Marshals - 3:00 p.m. (completion by 5:00 pm) Arrival at Justice Center

  • Parking: Parking is available in the garage across the street from the Justice Center at no charge.
  • Attire: We would prefer it if you wore khaki pants/slacks. You will receive a yellow 'staff' t-shirt when you check in at the Justice Center - please use the right front/revolving door on Market Street.
  • Tasks: The race will be begin at 4:00 p.m., and the first runners will make the first loop of the course in about 7 minutes, so you need to be prepared for their arrival shortly after the a start and you must be at the finish area by 4:05 p.m. The last runners and walkers will complete the course in about an hour, so you should expect to remain at your location until approximately 5:00 p.m.
  • As runners and walkers finish please direct them to the various after-party locations and to look for the results to be posted online, tweeted and texted. You may also direct them to Mitch's Gym to use the locker room facilities should they desire to do so.

Kids Run Marshals - 2:15 p.m. (completion by 3:45 pm) Arrival at Justice Center

  • Parking: Parking is available in the garage across the street from the Justice Center at no charge.
  • Attire: We would prefer it if you wore khaki pants/slacks. You will receive a yellow 'staff' t-shirt when you check in at the Justice Center - please use the right front/revolving door on Market Street.
  • Tasks: Using spray chalk, make start/finish lines.

Fun Walk Chaperones - 3:00 p.m. (completion by 5:00 pm) Arrival at Justice Center

  • Parking: Parking is available in the garage across the street from the Justice Center at no charge.
  • Attire: We would prefer it if you wore khaki pants/slacks. You will receive a yellow 'staff' t-shirt when you check in at the Justice Center - please use the right front/revolving door on Market Street.
  • Tasks: The walk will be begin at approximately 4:05 p.m., and the fastest walkers will complete the course in about 25 minutes, so a chaperone should be assigned to the finish line for the entire walk. The last walkers should easily complete the course within the hour, so you should expect to remain at the finish area until approximately 5:00 p.m. Chaperones should be distributed throughout the walkers and be alert to anyone have difficulty with the walk. Please direct walkers to stay right so that runners making their second lap can pass easily
  • As walkers finish, please direct them to the various after-party locations and to look for the results to be posted online, tweeted and texted. You may also direct them to Mitch's Gym to use the locker room facilities should they desire to do so.

Operations Support - 2:00 p.m. (completion by 5:00 pm) Arrival at Justice Center

  • Parking: Parking is available in the garage across the street from the Justice Center at no charge.
  • Attire: We would prefer it if you wore khaki pants/slacks. You will receive a yellow 'staff' t-shirt when you check in at the Justice Center - please use the right front/revolving door on Market Street.
  • Tasks: You will be assigned various duties as required, such as assisting with registration needs which will include the distribution of the participants gift bag and refreshments.
  • After the race has begun, you will assist in the breakdown by returning and neatly arranging tables and chairs in the snack bar, boxing of extra materials, collection of signs and balloons, and transportation to volunteer or hospital vehicles.
