Hematology-Oncology, also called medical oncology, deals with the diagnosis, treatment and management of people who have cancer. The specialty focuses on treating cancer with chemotherapy, a treatment using chemical agents that destroy cancer cells. Chemotherapy can be administered through a vein, by mouth, via an injection, or applied to the skin. It can be used alone or in combination with other treatments, including surgery and/or radiation therapy. Hematology focuses specifically on diagnosing and treating disorders of the blood and bone marrow.

The Cancer Center of Chester County offers comprehensive medical oncology/hematology and chemotherapy services provided by oncologists who practice exclusively in Chester County and, through their relationship with the Penn Cancer Network, stay abreast of the latest advances in the field. As part of the community, our physicians come to know patients and their families on a more personal level, and are able to provide special understanding and support when patients are facing issues and concerns.

• Physician evaluation and treatment planning for blood disorders and cancer care as well as long-term follow up
• Second-opinion services for blood disorders and cancer

Our medical team consists of:

• Twelve experienced medical oncologists trained at the nation's leading centers for cancer care, including the University of Pennsylvania, John Hopkins, and the Fox Chase Cancer Center
• Oncology nurses who are certified to provide chemotherapy and available to assist patients between visits
• Nurse practitioners with certification in oncology to assist with patient care
• Research nurses who coordinates care for patients participating in a clinical trial
• Social workers who helps coordinate care and assists in identifying resources in the community
