On July 19, 1982 at 7 am, the first paramedic unit in Chester County - Medic 91 - went into service. On the first day of service to the community, the Advanced Life Support Unit responded to 12 emergency calls. Its roots began as a pilot program sponsored by The Chester County Hospital. Today, it continues to be a Hospital-based mobile emergency unit. Medic 91 responded to 3,618 calls in FY2010, averaging 10 calls a day. It currently staffs eight full-time employees and 11 per diem paramedics. Medic 91 serves nine Chester County municipalities - West Chester Borough, West Goshen, East Goshen, Westtown, East Bradford, West Bradford, Birmingham, Thornbury, and West Whiteland.
