Tips for a Healthier Lifestyle

Steps you can take to lead a healthier lifestyle:

  • Choose healthy food options
    • Variety of fruits, vegetables, and whole grains
    • Limit high caloric, high sugar, high salt and high fat foods
    • Limit your use of alcohol
  • Strive to increase your activity level
    • Activities that increase your heart rate for ~ 2 hours/week
    • Helps to lower your weight - Lowers risk of diabetes, heart disease, and some cancers
  • Actions to protect yourself
    • Wash your hands regularly
    • Don't smoke. Avoid second hand smoke - Increased risk for cancer and heart disease
    • Build/sustain healthy relationships with family and friends
    • Wear a helmet when riding a motorcycle, bike, or skate (snow) board
    • Use sunscreen
  • Manage stress
    • Seek balance in work, home, and play
    • Take time to relax
    • Make sure you get plenty of sleep at night: 7-9 hours
  • Check-ups with your Primary Care Doctor
    • Frequent check-ups from your Physician
    • Regular exams, tests/screens, immunizations
