Labor and Delivery Unit

Labor and Delivery UnitYour birthing experience at The Chester County Hospital begins with the warm and welcoming environment of our Labor and Delivery Unit. While you're in labor, our specially trained nurses will help make you comfortable while monitoring your progress and communicating closely with the physician.

Our birthing suites consist of the latest state-of-the-art technology necessary to care for patients during the entire labor and delivery process. Two fully equipped surgical suites and recovery rooms, with physician anesthesiologists available 24 hours-a-day, are located adjacent to the birthing suites should a cesarean birth be necessary.

Many women find their birthing experience is more comfortable when they have someone close to them by their side. A support person and two visitors may accompany you through your delivery. Your support person may also accompany you if a cesarean birth is necessary.

If you have other children and want them to be present at the birth, we strongly recommend you discuss this with your physician. A separate support person must accompany any child under age 12 attending the birth. In addition, please discuss video and camera usage with your doctor prior to your arrival at the Hospital.

Families usually spend up to two hours in the Labor and Delivery suite after the birth of their baby. This is a time for you to bond with your baby and rest following your delivery. Grandparents may visit at this time. We make every effort to keep you and your baby together after delivery, even if a cesarean birth is required.
