Regular exercise can help preserve the life of your new hip or knee. And aquatic exercise is a great way to add fun and variety to an exercise regimen following your joint replacement surgery. The buoyant property of water means there is less stress on your joints during aquatic exercise. This is especially helpful in the early stages of your recovery. When combined with the relaxing effects of the pool's 92-degree water, participants find aquatic exercise to be an enjoyable exercise experience that also can improve their flexibility and improve muscle strength and endurance.
Offered at The Center for Physical Rehabilitation and Sports Medicine and conducted by a licensed rehabilitation professional, the Aquatic Exercise Program is open to those who have recently had a hip or knee replacement and have completed their outpatient physical therapy. All surgical wounds must be healed. Participants wear a bathing suit or dark tee shirt and shorts. Pool shoes also are permitted. Locker room, showers and towel service provided. Class size is limited. Registration is required.
