A gynecologic oncologist is a specialist in obstetrics and gynecology who, by virtue of education and training, provides consultation on the comprehensive management of patients with gynecologic cancer. At the Women's Specialty Center, a comprehensive management approach is taken that includes providing guidance, support, diagnostic and therapeutic procedures.
Waleed S.W. Shalaby, M.D., Ph.D.
Gynecologic Oncologist, Waleed Shalaby earned his BS in chemistry and Ph.D. in pharmaceutical sciences from Purdue University. He obtained his medical degree from the Medical University of South Carolina where he was named a member of the Alpha Omega Alpha Honor Medical Society. His residency in Obstetrics/Gynecology and fellowship training in Gynecologic Oncology were completed at the Hospital of the University of Pennsylvania.
As a gynecologic oncologist, Dr. Shalaby has expanded his expertise in both radical pelvic and abdominal surgery, minimally invasive laparoscopic procedures and pelvic floor prolapse. He has a special interest in robotic surgery and serves as a proctor for Intuitive Surgical to train surgeons.
Dr. Shalaby is the Medical Director of the genetics program at The Chester County Hospital. The current services of the genetics program relate to breast and ovarian cancers.
Dr. Shalaby has also been involved in clinical and translational research. His research efforts focus on development of proprietary biomaterials for sustained drug delivery, ad absorbable surgical materials for suture, mesh and stent development.
As a sub specialist in cancer, Dr. Shalaby has a deep interest in improving the delivery of care to patients by providing patient-centered emphasis on coordinating care as the patient and family navigate the complexities from diagnosis, treatment and thereafter.
